Summary:

Already humbled out of the cup by a 12 man Saints, Wigan now faced them in the league at Central Park. Bobbie Goulding was still suspended for his send off so 18 year old Lee Briers deputised for him at Scrum Half. Wigan meanwhile had new signing Tony Smith in at Scrum Half for them and all was well first half with Wigan taking an 8-0 lead after a Gary Connolly try and two goals from Andy Farrell. Wigan though had wasted chances to extend the lead with Steve Prescott being brilliant in defence and the loss of Henry Paul to injury on the half hour was a big blow. Saints made those missed opportunities pay second half with four tries to win at Central Park for the first time since Boxing Day 1997. It was also Wigan's first home loss since Wakefield had won in February 1994.
