Wigan were now aiming to complete a League, Challenge Cup and Premiership treble and set about this business in ruthless style here against Leeds. The match was all about Martin Offiah who set a new record for most tries in a game for Wigan with an amazing 10 tries during this match. The previous Wigan record had been seven tries in a match set five times by Johnny Ring, Gordon Ratcliffe, Billy Boston (twice) & Green Vigo. In the end Offiah fell one try short of equalling the all-time tries in a match record set by George West, who scored 11 tries for Hull Kingston Rovers against Brookland Rovers in 1905 but take nothing away from this remarkable achievement because it came not against an amateur side, but against Leeds who had beaten Wigan 19-0 on their last visit to Central Park. Offiah had five tries by half time with others from Dean Bell (2) and Frano Botica having them 36-0 up by the break. Five more Offiah tries and ones for Martin Dermott and David Myers completed the rout with Paul Dixon scoring a consolation for Leeds.
