With the title race being dusted, this league season ending match against Warrington had little riding on it and Wigan chose to rest eight players ahead of the Premiership Trophy campaign and Challenge Cup Final to follow. Wigan won the match despite a sin bin period of Shaun Edwards, but that only came after he had collected his 37th and 38th tries of the season. Warrington scored two tries in his absence to make Wigan sweat on the final whistle but the job was done in the end. The main drama had occurred in the afternoon with Bradford, Featherstone, Salford and Hull all sweating on joining Swinton in being relegated to Division Two. Hull and Featherstone started on 22 points with Bradford and Salford on 20 points. Obviously Bradford and Salford were in most need of victories and they both got them. Salford won at relegated Swinton 26-18, whilst Bradford sweated all afternoon in winning 14-12 at Hull KR. That result was not good news for Featherstone who ended up going down on points difference after a 28-10 loss at Wakefield. Hull also lost 14-30 at home to Castleford but survived due to Featherstone's result.
