After a bewildering opening day defeat to a 12 man Castleford the previous Sunday, news came through on the Thursday that Ellery Hanley had finally been sold to Leeds for £250,000. Given the start, the prospect of facing Widnes was perhaps a daunting on but Wigan produced a good display in a match that kicked off at 6:15pm at the request of broadcaster Sky Sports who had committed to showing a Live Match every Sunday Evening in this season. This game had been tight though with a 20-18 score line until Frano Botica scored the match clinching try in the 79th Minute.
