Summary:

The off season for Wigan had been pretty much about Ellery Hanley's departure and although a move to Leeds was looking increasingly likely, he was till on Wigan's books as the 1991/92 season got under way with this Charity Shield clash played in Gateshead. It was a good run out for Wigan who did most of their damage in the first half when they led 18-2.
