With the League, Regal Trophy and Lancashire Cup already
won, Wigan now had the Premiership and Challenge Cup Final to win to
complete "The Grand Slam". Wembley was still a week away but the Premiership
began with the visit of Warrington to Central Park. Steve Hampson, Joe
Lydon, Andrew Farrar, Frano Botica, Andy Platt and Phil Clarke all sat the
game out but those that did remain produced a thoroughly professional job to
get into the Semi Finals. Warrington did go 1-0 up with a Greg Mackey drop
goal but it was a 20-1 scoreline by half time and Wigan doubled their tally
second half. Martin Offiah scored five tries in the game, which was a poor
return compared to the ten tries he put past Leeds a year earlier.
