Summary:l

After the Good Friday draw against St Helens, Wigan knew that a win here on Easter Monday against Warrington and then in their season ending game in hand the following Friday, they'd be champions. Sky had chosen the game for TV coverage with an early 11:30am kick off at Wilderspool. Two tries from Dean Bell, returning looking fresh after an absence with concussion, got Wigan out to a 12-0 lead but before half time an error from Steve Hampson allowed Duane Mann to score but a failed conversion left it at 12-4 half time. After the break, Botica kicked a drop goal and a penalty for 15-4 before Shaun Edwards slipped under the posts for his 45th try of the campaign to make it 21-4. Then Andy Farrell sealed the victory with a try for 27-4, though the effort was soured late by Warrington claiming two consolations. However the win was the most important thing and Wigan knew the title could be sealed if Widnes beat Saints at Knowsley Road later in the afternoon. Saints though won 29-18 to ensure Wigan would need to beat Castleford in their game in hand the following Friday with Saints now having ended their season.
