A repeat of not only the Regal Trophy Final
earlier in the season at the same venue, but also the previous years Semi
Final when Wigan won 71-10. Bradford though had beaten Wigan 23-16 at Odsal
ten days prior in the league and proved to be far more competitive this time
round at Elland Road. The game was scoreless all the way to the 45th Minute
when Steve Hampson went over to break the long deadlock. Frano Botica
converted before kicking a penalty for 8-0 and Shaun Edwards kicked a drop
goal for a 9-0 lead. Bradford though hit back with a great try from Roger
Simpson. Receiving a pass from David Heron he managed to out-wit both
Hampson and Joe Lydon to score and with David Hobbs converting, it was a 9-6
score. That score held until the 77th Minute when Andrew Farrar's try sealed
the game and sent Wigan to Wembley for the sixth year in a row. Prospects of
what the press were billing as "the dream final" against Leeds had ended two
weeks prior though when they lost heavily to Widnes in their semi final.
