This midweek game at Leeds was a big ask for Wigan just three days after a tough battle in the cup at Halifax, but Leeds saying that had also been in a tough cup tie against Castleford on the Saturday. It ended up being a big night for Frano Botica. On the field he became the fastest ever player to reach 1,000 career points in British Rugby League when he kicked his second goal of the match. He achieved the mark in just 93 appearances, beating the previous record of 104 set by Lewis Jones. Off the field, after the game, he rushed to hospital for the birth of his third child!! After a delayed kick off, Wigan took the lead when Martin Dermott intercepted a Garry Schofield pass for 6-0, though Leeds hit back with a try from Andy Tait that Simon Irving converted for 6-6. Wigan though got the lead back just before half time with a Andrew Farrar try that was awarded despite Leeds screaming about double movement. Botica converted for a 12-6 half time score. Wigan kicked on after half time with first Martin Offiah scoring in the 47th Minute. Dermott kicked a drop goal and Botica a penalty for 19-6 before the next try was scored by Shaun Edwards, his 35th of the season, who completed a six-man move. Jason Robinson's late try completed the victory. Elsewhere, Saints kept pressure on Wigan at the top after beating Castleford 24-20 at Knowsley Road.
