Summary:
Wigan had to dig deep into their reserves to get past
Hull in this early January Regal Trophy Semi Final at Central Park with
several Internationals injured and Kelvin Skerrett being suspended. The
pressure was also on after Wigan's shock 41-6 loss at St Helens six days
earlier but youngsters Jason Robinson, Paul Atcheson, Andy Farrell,
Barrie-Jon Mather and Mick Cassidy were all called upon and did a great job.
Frano Botica opened the scoring with a penalty before sending Mather over
for the games opening try. Hull responded with a try from Matt Donkin in the
21st Minute but Shaun Edwards soon sent Neil Cowie under the posts and
Botica's conversion and a later drop goal made it 13-4 at the break. Wigan
had to work hard to get over the line but Edwards and Cowie repeated their
combination for a second time to complete a 19-4 victory.
