Summary:

This game in hand against Sheffield was slotted in on the Friday Night for Sky Coverage in case Wigan had failed to seal the title against Bradford in midweek. They didn't so Wigan instead took the opportunity to play a young side with them also finishing the season two days later against Leeds. Gary Connolly, Shaun Edwards, Martin Hall and Scott Quinnell all sat out with youngsters Andy Craig, Matthew Knowles, Neil Baynes, Steve Barrow and Daryl Cardiss all getting a run out. Sheffield had won nine games in a row, so this was not an easy task for Wigan but they prevailed at a foggy Don Valley Stadium despite their 30-12 lead being reduced to 30-24 at home point before Inga Tuigamala's try settled matters.
