Summary:l

The Charity Shield match to curtain raise the season had been mothballed in the previous two seasons and, to date, their hasn't been another one since. This one was played in Dublin but the pitch at the Royal Dublin Showground came in for scathing criticism. It had hosted the Dublin Horse Show a day earlier but a mixture of sand and water help removed the stench of horse shit. Leeds hopes were pretty much doomed when Marcus Vassilakopolous, playing Scrum Half, was sent off in the 9th Minute as Wigan took the lead. It finished 45-20 to Wigan in the end with control being earned before half time.
