Halifax had beaten Wigan at Thrum Hall in midweek but Wigan responded in this quick return fixture with a ruthless massacre at Central Park. After an early Frano Botica penalty for 2-0, Mick Cassidy claimed the first try in the 7th Minute and further tries from Jason Robinson, Phil Clarke and Kris Radlinski had Wigan 30-0 by Half Time. Their was no slacking off after the interval once Botica had got a four pointer on 47 minutes. Tries from Gary Connolly, Barrie-Jon Mather, a second for Clarke, Inga Tuigamala made it 56-0 with ten minutes to go. Halifax did manage to find one try from Paul Rowley at that point but a second from Edwards under the posts with six minutes to go ended the rout. With Leeds having been busy reaching Wembley in their cup semi final against Featherstone, Wigan had re-established their five point lead at the top of the table.
