Wigan were quickly back at Naughton Park, where they had won on the Saturday in the Challenge Cup, for their game in hand in the league. They got the job done in good style but at the cost of injuries to Martin Offiah (thigh) and Frano Botica (twisted ankle). Widnes meanwhile had eight players absent from their side but despite this, they took the lead with a try from Darren Wright. Wigan however responded with four tries in a 17 minute spell to have complete control. Martin Offiah crossed twice with tries also for Va'aiga Tuigamala and Neil Cowie. That had Wigan 24-6 up but a try right on half time by Anthony Singleton gave Widnes some hope still at 24-12. Widnes though sank after half time. Offiah completed his hat-trick before hobbling off on the hour. Other tries came from Phil Clarke and Barrie-Jon Mather.
