Once great rivals of Wigan for league titles between 1988 and 1991, Widnes were now falling from grace and Wigan continued their mighty start to the season with another romping victory. Bradford though, who Wigan saw off only via points difference for the previous season's title, had now gone top of the table having played a game more than Wigan.
