Summary:

So heading into the final weekend of the season, three sides were joint top of the table hoping to win the title. Wigan, Bradford and Warrington were not only fighting for the league, but  also the chance to take on Brisbane away in Australia on 1st June for the World Club Challenge. Wigan held the points difference advantage, so knew all they had to do was beat Oldham but rather than all three sides playing at the same time, Sky ranked up the drama by televising Warrington v Sheffield on the Friday Night, Leeds v Bradford on the Saturday Afternoon, then Oldham v Wigan at 7:00pm on the Sunday Night. That meant if they all won, technically they'd all finish their season top of the table.

So it happened. First, Warrington beat Sheffield 36-18 before Bradford smashed Leeds 52-10 at Headingley. Wigan knew though that the likelihood of both teams slipping up to gift them the title was unlikely, so nothing really changed for them. If they beat Oldham they knew they'd be champions. Oldham had done well to compete for the first 25 minutes, holding a 2-0 lead from a Darren Abram penalty goal, but tries from Martin Offiah, Barrie-Jon Mather and Shaun Edwards had put Wigan 14-2 up by the 34th Minute. Two tries in two minutes from Edwards and Offiah, ten minutes after half time, then took Wigan into a 26-2 lead and they never looked backwards, winning 50-6 in the end. So Wigna had sealed their fifth title in succession, on points difference for the second season in a row.
