Summary:

After their midweek loss to Wakefield, the press were sharpening their knifes ahead of this visit of Salford to Central Park. Missed goals had proven costly in midweek but Frano Botica was back to put Wigan 2-0 ahead early. However, David Young scored under the posts to put Salford 6-2 ahead and the atmosphere was beginning to turn ugly. Wigan calmed down though to get 12-6 up after tries from Martin Offiah and Sam Panapa but a try from Salford's player-coach Garry Jack saw it a 12-12 score at the break. Wigan though would have a great second half to ease any worries. Nigel Wright scored under the sticks, after a beautiful offload by Botica, for 18-12 before Botica kicked a second penalty for 20-12. Then a fabulous 80 metre solo try from Barrie-Jon Mather made it 26-12 and Sam Panapa wrapped up the victory late on. Title rivals Warrington had dropped points on in the Friday Sky Match away at Halifax but Bradford still looked ominous at the head of the table after hammering Hull KR 54-8 at Odsal.
