A shocking first half performance had seen Wigan go 21-2 behind and memories of the Regal Trophy Final against Castleford would have been fresh to all Wigan supporters. But right on the half time hooter, Barrie-Jon Mather scored and although Frano Botica missed the conversion, 21-6 didn't seem so bad. Particularly because Hull had a big wind advantage during the first half though and now the sides had turned round it was in Wigan's favour. Wigan would claw back with tries from Mather again and Sam Panapa but by the 70th Minute Hull still led 21-18. It was then that Daniel Divet made an error that cost his side dear. He had done well to defend a high ball right on his own goal line but then inexplicably tried to pass it. The ball came loose and Shaun Edwards and Ian Gildart combined to get Andy Farrell over in at the left corner. So whilst Wigan now led 22-21, they would end up sweating that lead out for the rest of the game. Paul Eastwood had a penalty goal shot to win it for Hull, but his effort went wide and he sank to the turf in despair. Wigan had got away with it massively here!
