Summary:

Castleford had beaten Wigan 46-0 at Wheldon Road in October and, although Wigan had a few test stars absent that day, they showed that result was no fluke with this comprehensively walloping of Wigan in the Regal Trophy Final. The rampage began in the 7th Minute with Martin Ketteridge break seeing Grant Anderson held just short by Joe Lydon. Tawera Nikau got the quick the ball and a one-two set of passing with Richie Blackmore got him over. They would score again in the 13th Minute when Ian Smales kick saw a whole host of Cas players racing for the loose ball. Grant Anderson got it and Lee Crooks' conversions for both tries had Wigan shocked at 12-0 down. Frano Botica responded with a penalty for Wigan but Crooks then kicked one himself for 14-2 and before half time they would get a third try. Good work from Nikau got Martin Ketteridge over and it was 20-2 at the interval.

Wigan came out second half looking to fight back but Castleford soaked up constant pressure for a full 10-15 minutes. They then kicked a drop goal for 21-2 on the hour and although 19 minutes still remained, Wigan's hopes began to quickly fade. Kelvin Skerrett was lucky to stay on the field with a dirty shot on Andy Hay but that allowed Cas to put the polish on their superb performance with a 76th Minute try from Ketteridge making it 27-2. Lee Crooks then scored in stoppage time to complete a 33-2 rout!
