Summary:l

Their was no scoring in the opening quarter but Wigan took the lead in the 23rd Minute with Andy Farrell taking a reverse pass when supporting Frano Botica's break. That made it 6-0 but four minutes later Leeds were level when Kevin Iro took a Francis Cummins offload to go under the sticks for 6-6. Wigan quickly got the ball back when good work to keep the ball alive, after a Shaun Edwards kick to the left corner, saw Martin Offiah squeeze in for a try. Botica converted for 12-6 and the only other scoring in the first half was a Graham Holroyd penalty goal that reduced the lead to 12-8.

Wigan got control of the contest just two minutes after the restart with Mather breaking from 50 metres away down the right to cut inside and score near the posts. Conversion now had Wigan 18-8 up. Leeds were not done though. A 51st Minute try from Cummins made it 18-14 and for the next twenty minutes only a Botica penalty goal saw the scoreboard troubled for 20-14 to Wigan. The game was still in the balance with ten to go but Leeds conspired to lose it themselves. Marcus Vassilakopoulos' pass from the base of the scrum went straight into the hands of Edwards and he cheekily returned it for a try that brought up the 1,000th point in his Wigan career. So Wigan had won 26-14 but the night was soured with news Denis Betts had broken his collar-bone.
