Oldham is not the warmest place at any time in winter but the weather was so grim for this Regal Trophy tie at Watersheddings that Kelvin Skerrett couldn't make it down the M62 from Yorkshire. John Dorahy had rumoured to have had a spat with Shaun Edwards which saw him continue with Sam Panapa and Frano Botica in the halves for the second match in a row. At half time all looked good for Wigan with a 16-2 lead thanks to tries from Panapa, Gary Connolly and Jason Robinson. They didn't score again though and had to hang on a little when Barrie McDermott reduced the lead to 16-8 during the second half. No further scoring occurred though.
