Summary:

It had been a tough first quarter, with only Joe Lydon kicking a penalty goal for Wigan, but a miraculous charge down of an attempted David Lyon clearance kick by Shaun Edwards allowed Denis Betts to pounce and claim the opening score. Lydon converted for 8-0 and after Paul Bishop kicked a penalty for 8-2, Mark Preston scored the games second try with a seventy metre interception return down the left wing. A conversion to that and a penalty goal had Wigan in full control at 16-2 heading into half time but Mike Gregory's try under the sticks right on the hooter gave Warrington great hope at 16-8.

They couldn't build on it and three tries on 48, 54 and 63 minutes from Kevin Iro, Preston again and Ellery Hanley took the game way beyond Warrington's reach at 32-8. That meant when David Lyon scored on 75 minutes it was only a consolation and Iro's second try in the 79th Minute put the gloss on Wigan's third Wembley success in a row.
