Goals: Steve Kerry 3
Summary:
Leeds were fast becoming Wigan's main title
rivals. Whilst most Division One sides played cup ties the previous weekend,
Leeds made up a league game having been knocked out in the Preliminary Round
against Bradford. That make up game saw them hammer bottom of the table
Barrow 90-0. They won again on this Sunday 44-2 against Sheffield whilst
Wigan had to work hard to see off Salford at Central Park. Wigan had Steve Hampson back for the first time since Christmas, following his ten match suspension, but their cause was
not helped by a second red card in consecutive weeks. Not Hampson this time but Ian Lucas
was marched in the 33rd Minute for a "stiff-arm tackle" on Ian Blease. Wigan
had been well in control late but conceded four tries in the last twelve
minutes to leave them sweating on a 32-26 win in the end.
Half Time:
Wigan 18 Salford 2
