Summary:
Wigan had crashed out of the Lancashire Cup
against Oldham three days earlier but this response against the touring
Kiwis was a great one. Tries from Joe Lydon and Andy Platt helped Wigan into
a 12-0 lead but in the 10 minutes before half time, New Zealand hit back to
12-8 a Gary Freeman try and two goals from Kelly Shelford. A penalty goal
from Phil Blake and a try to Ged Byrne made it 18-8 but Mark Elia's 66th
Minute try made it 18-14. The match was sealed with Les Davidson crashing
over in the 72nd Minute past poor defending by Darrell Williams.
