The onslaught of fixtures continued for Wigan with them facing four matches in the next seven days against 1st, 4th, 5th and 8th in the league table. This game against 4th placed Castleford was played on a Sunday Evening with Live Coverage on the BSB Sport Channel. Wigan would have seen league leaders Widnes win the previous day in an 18-13 Granada televised match at Sheffield, so a slip up here would mean Widnes could clinch the title by beating them at Central Park in two days time. Wigan's run had been so tough recently that they encouraged a 36 year old Graeme West out of retirement to help them out here and he played his part scoring the 4th try of the match. Earlier, David Myers had been sent over by Andy Goodway to put Wigan ahead in the 4th Minute. Later good work from Mike Forshaw had seen Bobbie Goulding send Ellery Hanley over for a score that made it 10-2 at half time. Tries second half from Myers again and then that one from West wrapped up the win but the fact Wigan managed to keep Castleford down to just four points was most impressive.
