The signs of tiredness were now becoming obvious for
Wigan but they somehow ground out another victory in this Easter Monday
clash at Oldham, on a poor Watersheddings pitch. A penalty from Frano Botica
put Wigan ahead but Richard Irving's try put Oldham 4-2 up at half time.
They held that until the 53rd Minute when Denis Betts scored a converted try
for an 8-4 Wigan lead. Their task was made all the harder with a red card
for Kelvin Skerrett who had already spent ten minutes in the sin bin earlier
in the game for elbowing Richard Russell. Botica eased the nerves with a
second penalty goal but although he was wide of the mark with a drop goal
attempt, it proved enough for the win. Elsewhere, Castleford and Hull were
playing each other and Hull's slender 14-12 victory completed a miserable
and costly easter for Cas. Widnes' 20-12 win over Saints made up for their
cup semi loss to them on Easter Saturday.
