Castleford had led the table for most of the season but
their league title hopes were blowing up in recent weeks. Wigan continued
that fall here with an excellent hard fought win but were left worried by
Andy Gregory being stretchered off in the 13th Minute with a suspected
broken ankle. A try from Ellery Hanley and three goals from Joe Lydon helped
Wigan to lead 10-0 but a try from David Roockley brought Castleford back to
10-4 by half time. Dean Bell's try got Wigan the win in the second half.
Elsewhere, Wigan got hope in the title race with Widnes slipping up at home
to Bradford. They still remained three points ahead of Wigan but Wigan still
had Widnes to play if they could narrow that gap further. Leeds remained top
after a narrow 12-10 win at Warrington.
