BBC Grandstand were attendance to see if Oldham could
repeat the Challenge Cup victory over Wigan of two years earlier, but it
wasn't the greatest spectacle on a snow covered pitch at Watersheddings.
Only one try was scored in the first half when a chip over the top from Andy
Gregory was won and hacked on by him for Shaun Edwards to finish. Joe Lydon
converted for 6-0. In the second half, Paul Lord scored in the right corner
to bring the score back to 6-4 but Oldham's chances were pretty limited
throughout. They had been hanging on a while before Kevin Iro eventually
scored. Conversion was missed, so Oldham still had a chance to force a
replay at 10-4, but Lydon kicked a late penalty to get Wigan through.
