Summary:l

Hull had risen from bottom to sixth in the table during a nine game spell since Australian Brian Smith became their coach and they would continue their rise with this win at Central Park. Wigan would have been happy to lead 10-8 at the break but before the hour mark they found themselves 29-10 down after Hull tries for Craig Coleman, Richard Price and Paul Fletcher with Gary Pearce kicking four goals and a drop goal. Ellery Hanley's try narrowed the gap but Jon Sharp soon went over to finish Wigan off. Denis Betts late try was only consolation.
