Summary:l

Wigan entered 1989 in sixth place and nine points off the title pace. So it looked a pretty forlorn task to close that gap and they had more off field problems with Andy Gregory being transfer listed and dropped on the Thursday before this game. Without him, Wigan produced a great win. They hadn't beaten Warrington at Central Park in four years and produced a superb second half from a 10-10 score. They were helped though with John Woods being sent off for Warrington and both Andy Platt and Mark Roberts spent ten in the bin for fighting. Tries from Ellery Hanley, Kevin Iro and Shaun Edwards saw Wigan home second half.
