Wigan took a 2-0 lead with an early Joe Lydon penalty
goal but the only other first half scoring was an equalising penalty from
Paul Loughlin and then a drop goal by Neil Holding put Saints 3-2 ahead at
the break. The score held for 17 minutes after half time before Wigan took
the lead and quickly lost it again. First Andy Gregory sent Kevin Iro over
then within three minutes an error from Shaun Edwards was punished with
Shane Cooper sending Roy Haggerty over. That made the score 9-6 to Saints
and on 63 minutes Loughlin added a penalty for 11-6. Wigan finished the
stronger and went ahead again with a great try finished by Joe Lydon from 50
metres, beating Phil Veivers in the process. He converted for a 12-11 Wigan
lead and Shaun Edwards sealed the win with a last minute try.
