Summary:l

This was an incredible victory in the Lancashire Cup Semi Finals for an injury ravaged Wigan side. Shaun Edwards and Andy Goodway had only been passed fit by late tests and the team included 18 year old Sean Tyrer, son of 60s Wigan star Colin who just so happened to be Widnes assistant coach at this time. Steve Frost also started on the left wing after a debut try as a sub at Leeds on the Sunday. Heavy Rain began to fall around kick off time and Sean Tyrer had already kicked two penalty goals before Martin Dermott's 15th Minute try made it 10-0. Widnes though began to claw back with two penalties from Andy Currier before Mike O'Neill's try on the half hour made the score 12-10 with Tyrer kicking another goal for Wigan. Tyrer then went on to miss two kicks either side of half time but amazingly the 12-10 score carried all second half until Tyrer kicked a fourth penalty goal in the final minute after a Steve O'Neill foul.
