Australian Steve Ella had been a marvellous signing for Wigan in 1985-86 but now in Wakefield's colours he came back to haunt Wigan in this match at Belle Vue. Wigan had fought back well but were left to rue a poor first half show that had seen them losing 17-4. News from Australia didn't help the mood either with Ellery Hanley, having scored in Balmain's 9-2 ARL Play Off Semi Final win over Cronulla, announcing that he wanted to stay in Australia.

Half Time:l

Wakefield 17 Wigan 4
