No one would have known at the time but this proved to be the beginning of eight years dominance in the Challenge Cup for Wigan, they wouldn't lose any of their next 43 ties until a February 1996 loss at Salford. Everyone remembers how that run ended but how it all begun was quite a forgettable match against Bradford at Central Park. Northern had beaten Wigan 18-16 at the ground in the league three weeks earlier but this contest was played on a "glue-like pitch". Their were few opportunities to score tries and the match ended up being settled by a 39th Minute penalty goal from Joe Lydon. BBC Grandstand joined coverage for the second half but the nearest they came to seeing some scoring action was a Bradford penalty by Keith Mumby hitting the post and Richard Russell failing to ground a potential try from a Shaun Edwards kick. Grandstand also suffered loss of coverage due to a power failure during the second half. In the end the match finished with just that 2-0 score to Wigan.
