Adrian Shelford made a long delayed debut for Wigan in this game with a court case between Wigan and St Helens over who held his registration had rumbled on. In the game Wigan continued their recent pattern of making hard work of games in second halves. Here they had a comfortable 16-0 half time lead against Hunslet at Elland Road but Hunslet ended up getting back to 16-10. They eventually recovered but although Ellery Hanley finished with four tries, three of them were scored in the final six minutes.
