Wigan took a break from league action to play against the Touring Auckland side and the sound of booing was heard around Central Park as Wigan produced a poor performance. Auckland, directed superbly by Gary Freeman, took a 10-0 lead by half time after tries from Shanes' Cooper and Horo. Wigan fought back to 6-10 with penalty goals second half but were denied a draw or victory when David Marshall had a late "try" disallowed.
