Summary:l

A run of eight consecutive league victories had put Wigan into pole position in the title race but a visit to fourth placed Halifax was one of the bigger tests of the run in. It had been a big weekend for the town with Wigan Athletic hosting Leeds United in an FA Cup Quarter Final at Springfield Park on the Saturday but the rugby had their own job to do. They were looking to take further advantage of Saints being involved in the cup still, in fact Saints were playing Leigh at Central Park in their semi final at the same time the football was playing. At Halifax, Wigan found themselves 6-2 down at half time but tries from Ellery Hanley and Andy Gregory got them a narrow 12-8 win. Warrington losing 14-10 away at Hull KR meant Wigan had gone four points clear at the top.
