Summary:l |
Widnes were without Tony Myler, John Myler, Andy
Sullivan, Kurt Sorensen or Phil McKenzie for this trip to Wigan but the home
side were also without Martin Dermott, Graeme West and Ian Roberts, the
latter being ruled out of what would of been his final game before returning
to Australia. Only a penalty goal from Joe Lydon troubled the scoreboard in
the first 15 minutes but once the first try was scored by Ellery Hanley,
Wigan kicked away. Dean Bell went over on 32 minutes before scoring an
"electric" second try, from over 50 metres, two minutes from half time.
Widnes did find one try second half, after Henderson Gill had extended
Wigan's lead, but tries from Shaun Edwards, Steve Hampson, Hanley and
Richard Russell completed a 40-4 rout. Elsewhere, Saints stayed top
with a 40-14 win over Bradford but Warrington suffered a surprising 9-6 loss
at Barrow. |
