Wigan's shock First Round cup exit at the hands of Oldham
left them with just the league title to play for. It was a big dangling
carrot though with Wigan having not won the league title since 1960.
Castleford had also exited the cup in Round 1, so the clubs were able to
re-arranged this match that had been postponed in October on the day Round 2
ties were being played. Castleford had led 6-4 at half time but Wigan would
push on after the break to earn a hard fought victory, failure to convert
any of their four tries making it tougher than it perhaps should of been.
