It looked like the sides would draw 16-16 until Ellery Hanley intercepted a Harry Pinner pass in the final minute to win the match for Wigan. Long time leaders St Helens lost for the third game in a row by 20-19 at Halifax which meant four teams were now "joint top" of the table with Halifax just a point behind in 5th.
