Summary:

Wigan were up against it here with both Ellery Hanley and Shaun Edwards absent for this trip to take on Warrington at Wilderspool, which came on the back of a tough midweek Lancashire Cup tie against St Helens. A try from Mike Ford that was converted by Henderson Gill for a 6-0 Wigan lead. A penalty and a drop goal from Paul Bishop reduced that lead to 6-3 before Warrington went in front with an unconverted try from Brian Johnson. The 7-6 score held until half time but Warrington, led by mercurial half back Andy Gregory, scored two early second half tries from Paul Cullen and Mike Gregory before a further score from Les Boyd had them in total command at 23-6. Wigan found a score from Keith Holden with ten minutes to go but it proved to be just consolation with Wigan falling to their first defeat of the season.
