Summary:l

Wigan had beaten Warrington in the Lancashire Cup Final and knocked them out on the way to winning the John Player Trophy as well but they couldn't knock them out of a cup competition for a third time. Warrington played an almost superb first half to lead 7-0 but a try from Ian Potter right on half time brought the score down to 7-6. That gave Wigan much hope but Warrington never buckled and by the time Ellery Hanley scored Wigan's second try, the game had been lost.
