This Permiership Trophy First Round tie was actually a tight one for a long while. Wigan's only first half points came just before half time when Andy Goodway sent Ellery Hanley clear for a 6-0 lead. Ian Lucas doubled the lead to 12-0 straight after the interval but the game only blew out after Ian Johnston was sent off for punching Ian Potter in the 51st Minute. It finished 47-0 in the end with Hanley scoring four and Henderson Gill a superb 60 metre solo try. This was not the way Rovers were hoping to go with them facing Castleford in the Cup Final the following week.

Hull KR 8. Ian Johnston was sent off in the 51st Minute for striking Ian Potter.
