Summary:

Wigan had suffered embarrassment on the previous Saturday when their newly installed undersoil heating at Central Park had failed and thus their match against Hull had to be called off. Still, it left them fresher for this New Years Day trip to Warrington for whom Les Boyd had been cleared to play after video evidence found him not guilty of striking in a match against Featherstone. Wigan and Warrington were already meeting for the third time in the season and it was a tight first half with only a try being scored by Shaun Edwards after good work from Mike Ford. That left it 6-2 at the break to Wigan and although Henderson Gill got a second try after the interval, Warrington had clawed back to 10-10 after a Brian Johnson try and a further penalty from Brian Carbert. Both sides got reduced to 12 men after a fighting incident in the 66th Minute and it looked like it would finish all square. That was until the last minute when referee Fred Lindop penalised Warrington for offside and Stephenson dispatched to nick the victory.

Half Time:

Warrington 2 Wigan 6

Referee:  Fred Lindop (Wakefield)
Note:

Warrington 13. Tommy Gittins & Wigan 9. Nicky Kiss were Sent Off in the 66th Minute for fighting.
