Summary:l

It had been a funny season for Wigan so far. They had won the Lancashire Cup in great style and beaten the touring New Zealand side but in the league they began this visit of Dewsbury rock bottom of the league table. Their rise up the table was seen as inevitable though with such talent as Steve Ella and Ellery Hanley in their ranks and they began that task in heavy style here with Ella claiming four of the eleven tries. The fact Ellery Hanley, Andy Goodway and Ian Potter were all backing up from Great Britain's 22-24 first test defeat to New Zealand the day before barely mattered as they romped to victory. Wigan still remained in the relegation zone though, despite this victory.
