Summary:

This was the first Charity Shield contested between the League Champions and Challenge Cup Winners and Wigan looked determined to lay down a marker against Rovers who'd won the last two titles. The score was only 10-2 on the hour but by the 66th Minute Wigan had made that score 28-2 with three tries in quick succession. That took the game beyond Rovers and ensured Wigan claimed the £4,000 prize money from Okells Brewery.

Half Time:

Hull KR 0 Wigan 10

Attendance:  4,066
Referee:  Ron Campbell (Widnes)
