Summary:l

Fixture congestion had left Wigan suffering during a back log of fixtures and they fell to a fourth successive defeat here to St Helens which ended their title hopes. Wigan had taken a 1-0 lead with a fifth minute drop goal from David Stephenson but the home fans were soon going nuts after tries from Phil Veivers, Andy Platt and Neil Holding had put Saints into an 18-1 lead by the 22nd Minute. Two tries from Brett Kenny had seen Wigan recover to only be 18-13 down at the break but had another bad period after the break with Saints tries for Platt (again) and Gary Ainsworth put them 30-13 in front. Wigan's later try for Nick Du Toit would only be consolation.
