Whilst reaching Wembley had been achieved, Wigan now had six matches in the next fourteen days to decide in they could win the league title. Oldham began the night above Wigan in the table but they had played six matches more, which highlighted the backlog Wigan would be facing. Early tries from Mike Ford and Nicky Kiss laid a good platform for Wigan but they wouldn't build on their lead up to half time. The third Wigan try came in the 48th Minute when an interception thrown by Platt was returned 80 metres under the posts by Henderson Gill for 18-2. The game was put to bed on 63 minutes when Gill was sent racing away by a combination of Brett Kenny and Steve Donlan before Kenny himself scored a late try to wrap it up.
