Wigan were looking to progress into the Quarter Finals
for the first time since 1974. Opponents Oldham the week before had suffered
the indignity of not only becoming the first time to be beaten by Whitehaven
in the league season so far, but going down in an absolute 42-8 hammering to
them. Wigan were beginning to look much better with Mark Cannon in the
halves and won this tie easily.
