Wigan were still alive in the title race and "kept their
hopes simmering" with this Good Friday victory over the enemy. A try from
Brian Juliff put Wigan ahead and they went further ahead four minutes before
half time when good work from Martin Foy sent Brian Case over. Colin
Whitfield's conversion made it 8-0 but after the break, Saints soon hit back
with an unconverted try from Kevin Meadows for 8-3. That score held all the
way until the 70th minute when Graeme West crashed over to seal the win,
13-3 after Whitfield converted. Meadows late second try of the game for
Saints was just consolation.
